Gaotai county

Gaotai county situates at the lower reaches of the Heihe River, covering an area of 4346 square kilometers and including 9 towns, 136 villages and 9 communities with a total population of 120,000.

Gaotai county has three state-level cultural relics protection units, four provincial-level ones and more than 100 county-level ones, ranking the leading place in Gansu Province with the number and the grade of cultural relics. The ancient site of camel city in the county is China’s largest and best preserved cultural relics sites of Han and Tang Dynasties. Xusanwan ancient tomb group is the best preserved large ancient tombs in China. The West Army Memorial of workers' and peasants' Red Army of China is not only the most comprehensive and authoritative national memorial but also is one of 100 national demonstration bases for patriotism education and one of 100 national classic scenic spot of red tourism.

Gaotai county covers water area of 10,740 hectares, wetland area of 29500 hectares and forestry area of 56066.67 hectares. It owns a number of national 4A-level and 3A-level scenic spots as well as wetland parks, making the county is beautiful in natural scenery and good in environment.

Gaotai county has been explored more than 20 mineral resources, among which raw salt reserves 11.68 million tons, making the county the largest salt production place in the province; mirabilite reserves about 30 million tons, accounting for half of the province’s reserves. It also has abundant available land resources and wind and thermal resources.

It has 8760 hectares of farmland where produce high quality agricultural products. Gaotai county is the national important commodity grain base county, the national hybrid corn seed production base and the provincial important plateau summer vegetable production and supply base. Gaotai county is also famous for its wonderful wine brewed with grapes from Qilian Mountain.

In 2024, the regional GDP of Gaotai county reached 7.898 billion yuan and the per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents reached 35,297 yuan and 22144 yuan respectively.
