Shandan County

Shandan county covers an area of 5402.43 square kilometers, including six towns, two villages and 111 villages with permanent resident population of 150,000.

Shandan has the largest horse ranch in the world, the highest indoor clay-made sitting Buddha covered with gold leaf in Asia and the best preserved Great Wall of Han and Ming Dynasties in China. Yanzhi Mountain, a national 4A-level tourist attraction, is known as the original birthplace of the World Expo.

Shandan has 49140 hectares of cultivated land and 247673.33 hectares of grass land and forestry, which has formed six regional characteristic industries such as high quality forage grass, Traditional Chinese Medicine and sheep.

Shandan has been found 24 mineral resources and 102 mineral areas. It has explored 10 minerals including coal, dolomite, iron ore and so on. Its proved recoverable coal reserves reaches 456 million tons. The county’s annual sunshine hours is about 3,000 hours, providing energy resource for wind electricity and photovoltaic equipment.

In 2021, the regional GDP of Shandan county reached 6.919 billion yuan and the per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents reached 30,961.4 yuan and 17,007.4 yuan respectively. In the next five years, Shandan will focus on industry-led and ecological function-led orientation, highlighting five advantages involving traffic location, cultural tourism, ecological resource, mineral resource and new industry. Shandan county is going to build a number of demonstrative bases such as clean energy development demonstration base, Qilian Mountain important water conservation base, demonstrative county of all-for-one tourism and so on, aiming at constructing the county of strong economy, prosperous industries, beautiful ecology and people enjoying happy life.
