A multi-city inheritance and performance event for Hexi Baojuan (literally meaning "the precious volumes of Hexi Corridor"), a national intangible cultural heritage, commenced in Zhangye, Gansu province, on Oct 18.
Hexi Baojuan is a form of Chinese folk storytelling with origins dating back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907) and Song Dynasty (960-1279). It was listed as a national-level intangible cultural heritage in 2006.
The event ran until Oct 23. It brought together inheritors and experts from various cities along the Hexi Corridor, focusing on three key aspects: inheritance practice, expert guidance, and live performances.
Inheritors from across the region gathered for in-depth discussions, sharing their meticulously preserved manuscripts and skills. Experts offered professional advice to help the inheritors refine both their techniques and promotional strategies.
Participants also visited Hexi Baojuan learning centers in Zhangye, observed daily teaching, and shared experiences in preservation and activity organization.
