A youth exchange camp between Hong Kong and Gansu was held in Zhangye, Gansu province, from May 22 to 24.

During the three-day visit, students and faculty from Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) toured the Zhangye UNESCO Global Geopark, the Qilian Mountain National Park Natural Museum, and the Zhangye Museum, experiencing the Silk Road's cultural heritage and strengthening their sense of national identity.

At the Zhangye UNESCO Global Geopark, Danxia landforms presented spectacular layered rock formations glowing in the morning light. Young participants took photos of the scenic wonders.

A CUHK student said that Zhangye's urban planning is impressive, featuring lush greenery, tree-lined streets, orderly traffic, and distinctive scenery throughout the city. He added that the area boasts the most beautiful Danxia landforms and delicious beef and mutton, encouraging more tourists to visit.

The group then visited the Qilian Mountain National Park Natural Museum, the first ecological science museum themed around a national park in Gansu. The museum showcases the Qilian Mountain's unique ecological value and important role as a natural barrier.

Through vivid ecological scenes, rare animal and plant specimens, and multimedia displays, the camp members directly witnessed the area's notable achievements in environmental protection.

Chen Zening, an assistant program manager from CUHK's Office of Academic Links (Mainland and Regional), expressed surprise that such a small city at the foot of the Qilian Mountains was home to such a grand museum with advanced information technology.

At the Zhangye Museum, the group learned about fine cultural relics and the city's long history as a key hub on the Silk Road.

The event allowed Hong Kong youth to experience the development achievements and rich culture of western China through on-site visits, cultural experiences, and interactive exchanges.
