Zhangye Colorful Danxia, Gansu

The dusk of a clear day is when Zhangye Colorful Danxia displays its most vibrant colors. As the daytime heat slowly fades, the slanting sunlight spills across the ridgelines, gradually illuminating the reds, oranges, and yellows hidden deep within the valleys. Layer upon layer of sandstone hills shift from soft pink to blazing orange, each band etched by mineral deposits and the passage of time. Over millions of years, wind and erosion have sculpted the landscape into a vast natural canvas awash with color. Arrive at the viewing platform before sunset, and you'll see hot-air balloons drifting lazily above the rainbow-colored hills.
