A poetry gala was held in Zhangye on the evening of Aug 19 to celebrate Qixi Festival, often referred to as Chinese Valentine's Day.

The event featured classical and original poetry recitations, fused with instrumental music, vocal performances, and dance, creating an immersive scene that recreated the romantic legend of the magpie bridge.

The program centered on classic Qixi-themed verses, alongside locally composed poems. Traditional pieces were also performed, accompanied by musical instruments. The combination of ancient poetry and modern stage art brought literary classics to life, drawing sustained applause from the audience.

Organizers said that the event aimed to carry forward traditional culture through contemporary expression, enriching urban cultural heritage and boosting public confidence in Chinese traditions.

By 11 pm that day, the gala had attracted about 28,000 viewers through combined in-person participation and online livestreams.
