Intl media tour explores Zhangye Colorful Danxia

The 2026 International Media Zhangye Tour visited Zhangye Colorful Danxia Scenic Spot on Sept 15.

A 29-member delegation of national-level and local international media and foreign bloggers toured the geopark's colorful hills and learned about efforts to protect its geological heritage and develop cultural tourism.

As a UNESCO Global Geopark and national 5A-level tourist attraction, Zhangye Colorful Danxia Scenic Spot prioritized the protection of geological relics. Staff introduced measures to strengthen geological resource management, ecological protection and tourism development.

They also described new offerings such as geological study tours, low-altitude tourism and cultural creative products, which are moving the tourism industry away from simple sightseeing and toward diverse experiences.

At viewing platforms, the delegation saw layered colorful hills stretching across the arid landscape. Foreign bloggers said they would share the scenery on overseas social media platforms so more people can learn about this geological treasure in the Hexi Corridor.

The scenic spot will use the international media tour as an opportunity to strengthen its global presence, tell stories of ecological protection and cultural-tourism development, improve international tourism products and enhance its overseas image.

The scenic area hopes to attract greater international attention to Zhangye Colorful Danxia and strengthen Zhangye's profile as a tourism destination.
