The Biandukou leisure tourism area in Minle county in Zhangye, Gansu province — nestled at the foot of the Qilian mountains — entered its peak tourist season on July 19.
The Qinghai spruce, a keystone species of the Qilian Mountains ecosystem, thrives in the remote northwestern interior of China. These trees have straight trunks and reach about 20 meters in height at maturity, a process that takes around 100 years. Year-round, these spruces bear silent witness to the changes in the local ecosystem and landscape.
The Gansu Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs released the fifth batch for its "Ganwei" Agro-product Regional Public Brand directory on Aug 4, with Zhangye Corn Seed on the list.
Shandan county of Zhangye, Gansu launched its “Culture Empowers Tourism, Investment Gathers Strength” Consumption Promotion Campaign and 3rd Chaobola Food Festival at Zhixing Square on the evening of Aug 2.
Zhangye, formerly known as Ganzhou, got its name from the phrase "to extend the arm of the country through to the Western Realm" in the Western Han period and has enjoyed a reputation as “Jiangnan Beyond the Great Wall” and “Golden Zhangye” since ancient times. The total area of Zhangye is 38,600 km2. It covers one district and five counties. Zhangye had a population of 1,237,600 in 2019. It is home to 38 ethnic minorities.
Zhangye has various rivers, sufficient sunlight, fertile land and convenient irrigation, which is a national modern agriculture demonstration zone, the largest corn seed production area in the country and the key production bases of grain, vegetables, fruits, oil plants as well as cattle and sheep.
